After Bundy’s failed escape from prison in July of 1977, he succeeded in breaking out of the Garfield County jail in Glenwood Springs, Colorado on December 30, 1977. He had lost a lot of weight and was able to squeeze out of a hole in the ceiling of his jail cell.
Once in Tallahassee, Bundy rented a room and stole a television and some other items he felt he needed. After a week in Florida, on January 15, 1978, Bundy entered an unlocked door on the Chi Omega sorority house, at Florida State University, looking to kill as many women as possible. He bludgeoned and strangled Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy. He left a deep bite mark on Lisa Levy’s left buttock that later sealed his fate at trial. He brutally bludgeoned and broke bones on two other young women in the Chi O house, though they both survived the attack. Several blocks away, he attacked another Florida State student and left her deaf and broke both her jaw and her skull.
On February 8, 1978, Bundy drove to Lake City, Florida, where he kidnapped, raped and killed 12 year old Kimberly Leach. After disposing of her body in a pig shed, he stole a vehicle and returned to Tallahassee. On February 11, Bundy was stopped by a police officer and his vehicle was found to be stolen. Bundy attempted running but was tackled by the officer and arrested. After several days with no identification of their arrestee, Bundy gave his real name. After conferring with police in Washington State and Utah, officers then realized who they truly had in their jail. Rather than extradite Bundy to his previous killing grounds, they tried Bundy on the 3 murders he committed in Florida. Subsequently, he was allowed to give interviews to detectives from several different states in an attempt to close their cases. Bundy was later found guilty in Florida for all three murders and was later executed for the murder of Kimberly Leach.
I can’t imagine the pain/anger the Florida families must feel knowing had he been secured in Colorado, their loved ones would be alive

I asked Kathy Kleiner if she blamed Colorado for Bundy’s escape & his attack at Chi O & she said she didn’t. I found that to be a fascinating answer. She has truly found peace within herself despite all of her trials in life.

to think; if that prison was able to hold him like it was supposed to, a 12 year old girl wouldn’t have been raped and murdered; she’d be alive today, with kids, a life behind her… same with those college girls… I wanna burn that prison cell…
